I have battled weight problems most of my life, and exercise has not been a favourite activity! The best solution that gives me the best long term results I have found is to have a personal trainer... who can encourage me, as well as provide a little well intentioned push in the right direction. I have had 2 or 3 personal trainers when I was based in Sydney. After moving to the Sunshine Coast I started training with Derek. I have always had success with personal trainers, but Derek has been able to get amazing results very quickly... helping me to develop my strength and overall fitness. The added bonus of having Derek train me at home, bringing his own training equipment with him, means I have been able to train much more consistently, because it is easier for me to schedule the training. Plus the added bonus of saving on gym fees! Its a great service, keep up the great work Derek.

Derek and his personal training program was a Christmas gift from my husband as our resolution to get fit, train together and train regularly.

Derek spent a lot of time with us initially getting our thoughts, expectations, going over any issues like medical conditions and finally what we would like to achieve. We then started day one with some simple core strength training. Derek uses a variety of techniques to achieve clear-cut goals, for example upright posture, core strength, power, flexibility etc.
By using a combination of stretches, fit ball exercises and weights, his training restored our joint mobility and reactivated unused postural muscles. This initial program served as a solid foundation for us to go onto build strength. The focus is not on a set of boring sets of mediocre exercises but a well planned, goal orientated pathway to what we hope to achieve.

The advanced strength development techniques which Derek teaches has improved our strength through purposeful and dynamic movements. Using different exercises, he showed us how to power groups of muscles , rather than training a series of isolated large muscles. The results achieved are greater than I have ever achieved at a gym or other sports. He take you on a journey of getting into the right mind set, not being lazy or doing "just enough". Derek is about maximum effort for maximum results without breaking your enthusiasm or spirit.
Derek mixes things up well, and for the first time in years I found a new enthusiasm for exercise, muscle strengthening, and went into new territory like boxing. This gave me a belief that I could achieve well beyond my own mental picture of what exercise and fitness are.
I have found my body shape has changed, I am fitter, have more energy and strength. Friends, family and business associates have remarked on this which cements in your mind that the hard work is paying off. I am able to water ski better, with greater strength and endurance, and it has helped in my pilot fitness as well.
The personal training aspect keeps you focused and on track. Derek is tough, keeps you focused and very much aware of the results you can accomplish even if you don’t believe it yourself at first.

Since training one day per week we have now incorporated a second day of fitness, that has been innovative, fun and very energetic.
Being able to train at a park, at home or other venues is so flexible and take away the hassle of needing to go to a gym or specific place. I had been a member of gyms in the past and then suffered from guilt trips for not going regularly. With Derek there is no cheating or being less than hard working.
Derek provides all, the equipment and over time we have purchases our own set for weights, bench, fit ball etc and now do more of our own extra training on our days off from Derek.
The science of fitness, peoples goals and lifestyle choices have moved a long way in the past 10 years and Derek is using the up-to-the-minute, effectual strategies to help us individually.
Even more he is fit himself so you feel like he knows the pain and gain – not forgetting that he is energetic, enthusiastic and has a great sense of humor; especially on our Saturday morning "wake- up" weekend workout!
Derek still improves his own training techniques, attends fitness industry workshops and by the continuation of his own professional development in the field which combines aspects of human physiology, anatomy, nutrition, program design and behavioral psychology, you feel like you are being taught by someone who not only is a personal trainer but has pride and professional approach to their clients in up to date training techniques.

If you are thinking of using a personal trainer, give it a go, and if all you can do is one day per week – go for it - I have seen results with only one day per week.
The hard work and perseverance has paid off and we will be utilizing is personal training for many years to come.
